Protocols Used in Transport

Protocols, Polices, Guidelines: does it make a difference what you call them and do you need them at all. The answer to both questions is yes. Properly written, protocols and guidelines can aid in decision making, increase performance and improve patient outcomes. Which you use and when you use them is determined by several things. Team composition, the type and amount of training received by the members, the type of procedures performed and the circumstances under which they will be performed are all important factors. Local licensure laws and standards of care must also be considered.
