Reimbursement for Respiratory Care Services in the Home
Angela King, BS, RRT, RPFT Tuesday, November 5, 1996
Home Respiratory Care is a relatively new field that was not considered when schedules for insurance coverage for home care services were initially proposed. This presentation includes a concise overview of the evolution of the current reimbursement environment, which typically does not allow reimbursement for the Respiratory Care Practitioner's expertise. The bulk of this presentation focuses on and lauds programs that were successful in securing reimbursement for home respiratory care. Common objections to reimbursement for home respiratory services are discussed, along with strategies for overcoming such objections. Attention is given to the development of programs to meet the needs of the managed care market.
