Louisa A. Ruesch Wednesday, November 6, 1996
Respiratory care practitioners have the potential to attain new levels of responsibility and involvement in the area of skilled nursing care. Critical elements include the provision of quality care and documentation that substantiates the appropriateness and medical necessity of the respiratory services provided. Assessing the real need for RCP professional intervention while implementing a valid patient care plan is challenging. Although mandated by Medicare these requirements, more importantly, should be standards all practitioners endorse and routinely practice.
