My Baby's Singing the Blues ... Jazz Him Up With Waveforms!

Katie Sabato, MS, RRT, Monday, December 8, 1997.

Mechanical ventilation of neonatal pediatric patients presents a challenge to even the most experienced pediatric intensivist. The multitude of respiratory disorders that can effect the child, the range of patient size, and the variability of gas flow dynamics, all combine to create a complex situation. The small, at times, inappropriately sized uncuffed endotracheal tube with its varying degree of leak further complicates the picture. On top of these, factor mechanical ventilation has become increasingly more sophisticated.

This lecture will present various graphic displays and case studies designed to improve the clinician's understanding of the neonatal pediatric patient ventilator interactions.
