Smoking Cessation Curricula
Crystal Dunlevy, EdD, RRT, Tuesday, December 9, 1997.
Students in respiratory care programs nationwide do not always receive adequate training in smoking cessation techniques and counseling. With a trend toward health promotion & disease prevention activities among RCPs, students should receive didactic instruction, laboratory and clinical practice in the area of nicotine intervention. This session will examine the medical literature regarding smoking cessation curricula, and discuss aspects of various successful programs. A model will be presented for a smoking cessation curricula designed for respiratory care programs, based on community partnership.
