Renee Theodorakis, M.A.
Adolescents with the chronic illness of asthma present a unique challenge to health professionals. While chronic illness affects all humans and alters their lifestyle in specific ways, teenagers exhibit specific developmental characteristics in conjunctional chronic illness. Professionals working with adolescents to educate, to aid self-management and empowerment, and to foster adherence to healthy lifestyles and regimens are constantly striving to provide relevant effective programs and services. Lecture participants will explore the interaction of the dynamics of chronic illness and adolescent development. They will also identify key components and characteristics of an adolescent education program.
