THE PRESSURE IS ON! The 'facts' about Pressure Control Ventilation
DONNA WEMHOFF, BS, RRT, CPFT
Increasing experiences with pressure limited ventilation using the Pressure Assist/Control mode have increased the awareness of the benefits this mode can provide. This lecture addresses the indications for use of Pressure Assist/Control, clinical advantages, and waveform comparisons to volume ventilation.
Management strategies start with initiation of pressure limited ventilation, parameter changes to improve oxygenation or reduce barotrauma, alternatives to accommodate changing situations, and finally, the weaning process. What a treat to have such a custom fit mode of ventilation. Respiratory therapists, educators, students, physicians, and nurses will enjoy the clinical orientation of this presentation.
