The Respiratory Therapist's Perspective: Matching the Ventilator to the Patient
Angela King, BS, RRT, RPFT, CPHQ Cement City, Michigan
Within the past year, several new ventilators have been introduced for homecare use. With the new ventilators, a wide variety of waveforms, modes of ventilation, and ventilator features are available. The presentation will highlight the use of different ventilator features and modes (e.g., Pressure Support, Rise time, Flow termination, etc...) to accommodate different vent user needs and will explain these features in "plain language" for the layperson. The presentation will not be geared towards a specific make/model of ventilator. Practical suggestions for using specific ventilator features to match the machine to the vent user will be emphasized.
