Being a Measurement-Managed Respiratory Care Service
John W. Salyer, MBA RRT FAARC Primary Children's Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah
This lecture will establish the importance of creating a measurement-managed culture within Respiratory Care Departments. Based upon the premise that you cannot manage what you cannot measure, this lecture will make the case for defining key aspects of the value-added activities of respiratory care practitioners, and establishing systems for measuring, analyzing, and reporting these data. These will include process, outcomes, and patient satisfaction measures. Also included will be financial performance measures for respiratory care departments and a discussion of the utility of measuring productivity. Aligning measures with incentives is discussed.
