Clinical Uses of Infant Pulmonary Function Tests

Recently methods have been developed for assessing lung function in infants that duplicate those used routinely to measure pulmonary function in older children and adults. These new methods permit the measurement of maximal expiratory flow-volume curves and fractional lung volumes in sedated infants. The usefulness of these new tests of infant pulmonary function will be illustrated using clinical cases and research applications.
