TYL (Test Your Lungs) in Cincinnati: Prevent Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis

In this keynote address Dr. Dennis E. Doherty will review the history, epidemiology, prevalence, tools for diagnosis (with emphasis on spirometry), and the pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic modalities currently available for the treatment of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD). A brief introduction to the National Lung Education Program, summarizing its mission statement and objectives, will be presented. An algorithm describing an organized approach to the COPD patient, developed by the NCAP (National COPD Advisory Panel) will be reviewed. A question and answer period with actress Ms. Loni Andeson will follow. She will elaborate on her personal experiences growing up in a family in which both of her parents smoked cigarettes and suffered from the ill effects of COPD.
