Monitoring Resistance and Compliance

Airways resistance and respiratory system compliance are important aspects of pulmonary mechanics. Both can be monitored in mechanically ventilated patients. This lecture will review methods for monitoring of resistance and compliance during mechanical ventilation.
Describe the Equation of Motion as it related to respiratory mechanics
Describe the effects of respiratory mechanics on airway pressure during volume-controlled ventilation and the effects on flow during pressure-controlled ventilation
List factors that affect respiratory system compliance and airways resistance during mechanical ventilation
