Con: Aerosol Therapy is an Occupational Hazard for RTs

For many years, there has been concern regarding exposure to health care providers of aerosolized drugs. Of greater concern than exposure to aerosolized drugs is exposure to microorganisms. If appropriate workplace controls are followed, there is minimal occupational hazard for respiratory therapists from administering aerosol therapy.
Objectives
1. Discuss the risk for exposure of respiratory therapists during aerosol therapy
2. Describe the role of workplace controls in limiting exposure during aerosol therapy
