Objective To evaluate theactivities of IL-4 and IL-5 and the serum IgE level in patients with allergicasthma remitting at puberty.

Methods All subjects weredivided into four group, including A (allergic asthma remitting at puberty),B (asthma at stage of attack), C (asthma at stage of remission) and D (healthysubjects). The activities of IL-4, IL-5 and serum IgE levels in all subjectswere measured by ELISA.

Results (1) The activity ofIL-5 in group A didn?t significantly increase, being significantly lower thanthat in group B (P<0.01) and C (P<0.05). There wasn?t obvious differencebetween group A and D. (2) The activity of IL-4 in group A was significantlylower than that in group B (P<0.01) , being not significantly different fromgroup C and D (P>0.05). (3) Serum IgE level in group A was significantlylower than that in group B (P<0.01), being not significantly different fromgroup C and D (P>0.05).

Conclusion The activitiesof IL-4 and IL-5 in patients with allergic asthma remitting at puberty decreasedsignificantly, and their serum IgE level decreased to a certain extent. Theseimply that IL-4, IL-5 and IgE play important roles in the mechanism of bronchialasthma.
